Ravensburger vs Clementoni: Which 1000-Piece Puzzle Should You Actually Buy?

If you have ever stood in front of a shelf of 1000-piece puzzles wondering why one costs $29.95 and the one next to it costs $34.95, this guide is for you. Ravensburger and Clementoni are two of the biggest names in puzzling, and they take genuinely different approaches to the craft.

We stock both because both are excellent, but they suit different puzzlers. Here is how they compare on the four things that actually matter when you are spending eight hours at the table.

Two of our most popular 1000-piece titles, and a $5 gap that says a lot about the two brands.

Piece thickness and feel

Ravensburger is the benchmark here. Their pieces are dense, snap together with a satisfying click, and hold their shape even after repeated builds. Clementoni's pieces are slightly thinner but use a linen-texture finish that cuts glare beautifully under lamplight.

When you are dedicating eight hours to something, a few dollars saved on a thinner piece is a false economy.

The cut, and why it matters

Ravensburger uses a random soft-cut that makes every piece subtly unique, so you rarely place a piece in the wrong spot. Clementoni leans toward a more grid-like cut, which some solvers love for its rhythm and others find trickier in large areas of a single colour.

Print, image and price

Clementoni's real edge is vivid, saturated printing, often at a friendlier price and with larger piece counts available. Ravensburger's images are more muted and painterly, and their exclusive artist ranges, such as Colin Thompson and Aimee Stewart, are hard to beat if you love detail.

Our verdict

Buy Ravensburger for heirloom-quality feel and artist ranges. Buy Clementoni for vivid images, bigger counts and better value. You genuinely cannot go wrong with either, which is exactly why they are both on our shelves.
