Sana Turnock

Sana Turnock paints in Busselton, on Wadandi Country in Western Australia. Every puzzle on this shelf is one of her own paintings, made into a puzzle in Australia. No licensed stock image and no studio of designers, one artist and one hand.

The work is abstract and intuitive. She builds it in layers from acrylics, inks, fine art pens and aroma, and says she rarely begins with a plan. Gustav Klimt and Picasso are in there if you look, most obviously in 3 Wise Women. What comes out is colour, texture and mark making rather than a scene you can name.

That makes it a different kind of build. A landscape gives you a horizon and a sky to sort by. An abstract gives you colour and edge and nothing else, so it is slower, harder and a good deal more absorbing. If you have built a lot of cottages and coastlines, start here.

Framing it rather than breaking it up is a fair end for a puzzle that was a painting first.
