Nine beagle puppies in a row against an old barn door, at 98 cm wide and 33 cm tall. A panorama, and the format is the joke: the picture is a line of dogs, so it is shaped like one.
Nine puppies along a weathered timber ledge, most of them front paws over the edge looking straight at the camera. One on the left is mid-yawn with its eyes shut and its mouth wide open. One in the middle has climbed onto another's back and is facing away, tail up. The rest are the usual tricolour, tan, white and black, in every combination, with the long ears and the soft muzzles.
Behind them, a pair of barn doors in weathered grey-green timber, with two large X-braces and a heavy black iron hinge and handle in the centre. The wood is split, knotted and flaking, and it fills the entire background.
Whatever they are all staring at, they smelled it first. A beagle carries roughly 220 million scent receptors against about five million in a human nose, which puts the breed among the best trackers in the dog world, behind only the Bloodhound and the Basset Hound. It is a scent hound bred to hold a trail for hours, and it has been a recognised breed since 1885.
The barn door is the difficulty and it is most of the picture. Grey-green weathered planks, all running vertically, at the same tone across the whole width.
But the door has structure, so use it. The two diagonal X-braces are the strongest lines in the frame, the iron hinge is the only black, and the plank joints run at regular intervals. Build the braces and the hinge first and you have divided the background into panels. Sort the timber by grain direction and by whether a piece carries a joint, a knot or a split.
The puppies are the easy reward, and each face is individually distinct. The panorama shape helps throughout: at roughly fourteen pieces tall, nothing is ever far from a known edge.
Italian, High Quality Collection Panorama, and the box confirms 98 x 33 cm with a poster included. On a picture that is two thirds weathered grey timber, the print holding fine tonal separation is what makes the background sortable at all.

Panorama suits some subjects genuinely better than a standard frame, and a row of dogs is the clearest possible example: in a 70 x 50 the same photograph would be half empty barn door. It is also easier than a standard 1000 because nothing is more than about seven pieces from an edge. The catch is width, so measure your table first. Derived from multiple public data sources across retail, search and community platforms, refreshed 31 August 2026.
Clementoni reissued this title in the compact box pictured, and that is the version we stock from here on. While the last of the earlier stock lasts, a small number of orders may ship in the original long box. The puzzle inside is identical: same artwork, same 1000 pieces, same 98 x 33 cm finish. The compact box states a poster included, the earlier box does not. If you would rather have one box than the other, or the poster matters to you, say so in the order notes and we will sort it.
