This is from Clementoni's Impossible range and the name is not marketing. A flat lay of several hundred Christmas decorations photographed from directly above, with no horizon, no subject and nothing to orient yourself by.
Baubles, and then more baubles. Matte red, matte teal-blue, gold and copper, in perhaps six sizes, packed edge to edge over a dark green bed of fir. Scattered through them: wooden nutcracker soldiers in red and blue uniforms, pine cones in gold and natural brown, red poinsettia and star anise, silver bows, tiny stars, and a handful of larger feature baubles with raised patterns. A green rosette near the top. The light is flat and even, so nothing casts a shadow that would help you.
Every trick you normally use is unavailable, and that is the product. There is no sky to sort, no horizon to build to, no subject to anchor. There are only four or five colours and each appears in every part of the picture.
The way in is the nutcrackers. There are maybe a dozen and they are the only tall straight-sided objects in a picture made entirely of spheres. Find them and you have a dozen fixed points. Then work the largest baubles, since a piece showing a big smooth curve can only belong to a big sphere. Then sort what is left by curvature and surface rather than by colour: matte versus glitter, tight curve versus shallow, fir needle versus pine cone.
Plan for several sittings. This is the puzzle you leave out on a table for a week, not the one you finish on a Sunday.
Italian, and the Impossible range is built on their printing: an image like this only works if the colour separation between a matte red and a slightly different matte red survives on to board. The box confirms 70 x 50 cm finished, and a poster of the image is included, which on an Impossible puzzle is not a bonus, it is a necessity.

Deliberately punishing puzzles are one of the pillars we buy for on purpose. There are several distinct kinds of hard: the all-one-colour panel, the huge piece count, the pattern repeat, and the flat lay with no subject. This is the last of those, and somebody who enjoys one kind does not necessarily enjoy the others, so it is worth asking before you buy it as a gift. Derived from multiple public data sources across retail, search and community platforms, refreshed 31 August 2026.
