Lago di Braies in the Dolomites at first light, with the old wooden boathouse and its row of moored rowing boats. This is one of the most photographed lakes in the Alps and it earns it: the water really is that colour.
A still turquoise-green lake filling the middle of the frame. On the right, a weathered timber boathouse on stilts at the water's edge with a shingled roof, and half a dozen wooden rowing boats tied up alongside it. Dark spruce forest crowding down to the shoreline on both sides, with a large spruce bough framing the top right corner.
Behind, the Dolomites: pale limestone walls in near-vertical strata, catching warm gold on their upper faces where the sun has just reached them while everything below stays in cold blue shadow. The whole massif repeats in the lake, slightly softened, with the gold band mirrored across the water.
The reflection is the trap. Roughly the bottom half of this picture is a mirror of the top half, and the two halves are made of nearly the same pieces. Separate them at the start, using the fact that the reflection is very slightly darker and softer, and keep them in different piles all the way through.
Build the boathouse first. It is the only man-made object, the only strong brown, and it has hard straight lines. Then the shoreline, which runs the full width and is the boundary between your two piles. Then the rock: sort the limestone by the gold-to-blue split, because the lit faces and the shadowed faces belong in different parts of the massif. The forest is the last job, dense near-black spruce with very little internal detail.
Italian, High Quality Collection, made in Italy. The box confirms 70 x 50 cm finished, and the compact box includes a poster, which on an image with this much repeated water you will actually use. Their printing holds graded colour well, which matters when half your sorting depends on telling a lit rock face from its own reflection.

Alpine lakes are a crowded subject and most of them are the same postcard. The ones worth owning have a second thing happening, and here it is the boathouse: a single warm wooden structure in a picture made entirely of rock, water and conifer. Without it this would be a much harder and much duller build. Derived from multiple public data sources across retail, search and community platforms, refreshed 31 August 2026.
We hold this title in two Clementoni boxes and the puzzle inside them is identical: the same 1000 pieces, the same 70 x 50 cm finished size, the same print. Clementoni reissued the artwork in their slimmer compact box, which is the one photographed here, and a few units of the earlier standard box are still on the shelf. The compact box states a poster included, the earlier box does not. If you would prefer one box over the other, or the poster matters to you, add a note to your order and we will pick it for you.
