What you are looking at

A flat lay on aged parchment and worn wood. At the centre, a glass sphere lit from within with crackling green-white light, sitting on a brass stand. Around it: tarot cards face up with figures and a pentagram, sheets of alchemical diagrams and hand-drawn zodiac charts, brass amulets and coins, carved runes on wooden discs, a dried pressed spider, a black feather quill, crystals and polished stones, small stoppered bottles, a wax-sealed letter, and a stone bust in the lower left. Symbols are inked over almost every surface: pentacles, planetary glyphs, runic alphabets and circles of script.

What it is like to build

The crystal ball is the only light source and the only cool colour, so build it first. It is unmistakable and it anchors the centre of an image that otherwise has no obvious structure.

Then sort by material, not by colour, because almost everything here is brown. There are really five families: parchment with ink on it, printed tarot card, brass and metal, dark wood, and stone. Each behaves differently at piece scale and each sits in a different region. Anything carrying legible script or a symbol goes down early, because those pieces are individually identifiable in a way that plain aged paper is not.
