Eurographics - Ye Old Toy Shoppe 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle

What you are looking at

The two bow windows are packed: a yellow airship, model aeroplanes, a red biplane, a rocking horse, dolls, teddy bears, a wooden train, building blocks, a gumball machine, board games, puppets, a red fire engine and a doll in a blue dress. Outside on the cobbles, a red tricycle, a green pull-along car, a hopscotch grid chalked on the pavement along with drawings of a hippo, a teddy and a llama, and a black and white cat asleep by a wooden planter of geraniums. What it is like to build

The picture divides into three jobs of very different difficulty. The shopfront itself is easy: large flat areas of saturated red and white with hard architectural lines. The two windows are dense but forgiving, because every toy is a distinct object with its own colour, so you work them one toy at a time.

The cobbles are the hard part. The bottom third is pale grey paving with faint chalk drawings on it, low contrast and repetitive. Use the chalk: the hopscotch grid is a hard geometric figure, and the drawings are the only marks out there. Place everything with chalk on it first, then fill the plain paving by shape.
