Gibsons - Christmas Switch On 100 Piece XXL Jigsaw Puzzle

100 pieces, but each one roughly four times the size of a normal puzzle piece, and a full-size adult picture on it. That combination is rarer than it sounds and it is the whole reason this exists.

Who this is actually for

Almost everything with big pieces is aimed at small children, which leaves anybody whose hands or eyes are not what they were with a choice between a picture they find patronising and a puzzle they cannot comfortably handle. A 100XXL is the answer to that, and it is also simply a relaxed hour for anyone who wants a finished picture in one sitting rather than a week's project.

What you are looking at

The Christmas lights switch-on in an English market town, painted by Trevor Mitchell. A blue stage set up in the square with a mayor in scarlet robes and chain, a town crier in a tricorn hat, an elf and Santa gathered around a big lever-switch box marked Christmas Lights. Behind them a tall decorated tree and strings of star and snowflake lights across the square.

Around the stage, half-timbered and stone buildings with lit windows, a confectioner's shop, a pub, an old cream and red bus, and a brass band in uniform playing at the left. The crowd fills the whole foreground: children on shoulders, faces turned up, a girl in a red and white scarf, a woman laughing, and a horse-drawn sleigh on the right.

What it is like to build

An hour, maybe less, and pleasant throughout. With only 100 pieces the edge is a quarter of the puzzle, so build the frame and you are already a long way in. After that the stage, the tree and the bus are the three strongest colour blocks. There is no grind anywhere in this one, which is the point of it.

Why the Gibsons build matters

Gibsons have been British since 1919 and print on 100% recycled board. At this piece size board thickness is what separates a satisfying piece from a floppy one, and theirs is thick. The box is planet-friendly and tab-sealed rather than shrink-wrapped.

A little context

Large-piece adult puzzles are one of the genuinely underserved corners of the market, and we think it deserves more attention than it gets. If you are buying for someone in a care setting or for a grandparent who has started finding 1000 pieces a chore, this format is the honest answer and it does not require anybody to admit anything. Derived from multiple public data sources across retail, search and community platforms, refreshed 31 August 2026.
