Dublin's Ha'penny Bridge on an ordinary afternoon, drawn rather than photographed. Illustrated by Elizabeth Blustin in ink and watercolour, and it is a picture about the people crossing rather than the bridge itself.
The bridge's white cast iron arch crossing the Liffey from the right of the frame, with its lattice railings, three ornate lamps along the span and garlands of greenery wound through the ironwork. A grey stone building with arched windows on the right bank. Red brick Georgian buildings on the left with a stone staircase coming down to the quay.
The foreground is a stream of people crossing in both directions: a man in a purple jacket, a young woman in a pink hoodie with a phone, a person in a wheelchair with a dog on a lead, a group with backpacks, a woman in an orange coat, a couple with a golden retriever, a child in a pram, a busker's pitch. A pale abstract sculpture stands on the quay in the middle with a cat sitting on top of it. A seagull on the bridge finial and a moody blue and grey sky over everything.
The bridge is the skeleton and it is the easiest thing in the box. A white arch against dark water and stone, with a regular lattice pattern along it. Build the whole span first and you have divided the picture cleanly.
The crowd is the long middle and it is enjoyable. Each figure is a small block of one or two clear colours, and because the artist has drawn rather than photographed them, the outlines are firm and the fills are flat, which makes pieces easy to assign. The sky is the only real difficulty, a loose wet wash of grey and blue with no hard edges, and it goes in by tone at the end.
British since 1919, printed in the UK and Europe on 100% recycled board. The box carries their People & Planet mark, and it is plastic-free and tab-sealed rather than shrink wrapped, so there is nothing to throw away when you open it. On watercolour originals the print is what preserves the soft tonal steps in a wash sky.

Illustrated cityscapes are quietly taking shelf space from photographic ones, and they suit a different room: a photograph of a bridge looks like a postcard, a drawing of one looks like a print. If the finished puzzle is going on a wall, that difference matters more than the subject does.
