HEYE - Inner Mystic: Woodland 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle

A hooded figure with antlers leading a procession of seven black cats through a forest that is glowing from the inside. Andy Kehoe, from Heye's Inner Mystic series, and it is one of the most atmospheric images in the range.

What you are looking at

The figure stands at the left on a low stone ridge: a tall dark silhouette in a blue cloak, with a pale mask and a set of antlers, holding a staff. Behind it, in single file along the ridge, seven black cats with their tails up, each one a flat silhouette.

The forest around them is doing something impossible. The trees on both sides are painted in deep teal and midnight blue with turquoise foliage, but the centre of the wood glows warm, a column of amber and gold light rising between the trunks as though the air itself were lit. One huge dead trunk stands in the middle of it, split and leaning. Fine points of light drift through the whole scene like dust in a sunbeam. Below the ridge, dark boulders and a thin stream catching a thread of orange.

What it is like to build

The picture is built from two colour families and they barely touch. Cold teal and navy at the edges, warm amber and rose in the middle, with a narrow transition band between them. That split does most of your sorting before you place a single piece.

Build the silhouettes first. The figure, the cats and the central dead trunk are the only true near-blacks, and each is a hard shape against a bright ground. Then the ridge line, which runs across the picture as a strong horizontal. The glowing centre is the hard region, a large smooth field of graded amber with only faint tree trunks in it, and it goes in by tone at the end.

Why Heye

Heye are German and have built their reputation on licensing artwork that no other publisher would take. Andy Kehoe is an American painter whose work is genuinely collected, and Inner Mystic is a proper series rather than a one-off. Their board and cut are to the German standard.

A little context

Heye is worth knowing about as a brand rather than a source of individual pictures. Where most publishers licence photography and decorative painting, Heye licences contemporary artists, which means their catalogue is the place to look when the rest of the category feels interchangeable. Derived from multiple public data sources across retail, search and community platforms, refreshed 31 August 2026.
