Heye - Zozoville: Spring Time 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle

A large orange creature has got itself stuck on a child's playground spring rider, and a small boy in a red coat is watching it happen. Portrait format, and it is the best visual joke in the range.

What you are looking at

The creature is enormous, shaggy and orange-brown, with a long curved beak or snout in striped teal and red, a spiny crest, and a green-blue body. It is balanced, badly, on a small red spring-mounted seesaw of the kind found in every municipal playground, and the spring is visibly compressing. A black bowler hat has come off and is still in mid-air above its head.

To the right, at a safe distance, a small child in a red padded coat, blue hat and teal trousers stands watching with their hands behind their back. The ground is a flat expanse of pale snow or sand with a few tufts of grass and some scattered footprints. Behind, a washed-out cream and grey wall with faint marks on it. The whole image is painted to look like an old photograph with a soft worn border.

What it is like to build

The creature is the only saturated colour in the picture and it is roughly a third of it. Build it first, and use the striped beak as your starting point since those stripes are the hardest, most regular pattern in the frame.

Then the child, the only red-and-blue object elsewhere. Everything remaining is the difficulty: a large pale cream-grey ground and an equally pale wall, at low contrast, with almost no drawing in either. Sort those by the faint tonal shift between ground and wall, place the few footprints and grass tufts as landmarks, and expect the last two hundred pieces to go in by shape alone.
