How a Wasgij works, and what you get here

You build what one character in the scene can see, not what you can see. It appears nowhere on the packaging and you work it out from logic and from the pieces themselves. On this one you are puzzling what the lady sees, the woman shown on the side of the box.

And there are two 1000 piece puzzles in the box, the Wasgij itself plus a second puzzle, so 2000 pieces of building in total. That makes it a long project rather than an evening.

What is on the box

A garden party on the lawn of a large country house with a banner reading 25 YEARS OF FUN and a marquee behind. A vast cake in the middle with a woman in a blue dress standing over it and a great deal of chaos in progress: a dog making off with the food, guests in deckchairs, a morris dancer, a steam traction engine, a vintage bus, a hot air balloon and an airliner overhead, and a hundred caricatured faces reacting in every direction. Confetti and gold 25th-anniversary detailing around the border.

What it is like to build

For the mystery puzzle, sort by colour and texture and nothing else. With no reference image the usual method is gone, and grouping replaces it: skin tones, sky, grass, and the block colours of the clothing. Wasgij art is heavy black outline over flat fill, so any piece carrying a line is worth several that do not.

Keep the two puzzles apart. Both are 1000 pieces, both are in the same box and both are cut the same way. Open one bag at a time.

Anniversary editions are the ones that go out of print fastest, because they are bought to keep as well as to build.
