Ravensburger - Naples (Napoli) 1000 Piece Puzzle

Naples at sunrise from the air, with Vesuvius on the horizon and the sun coming up directly out of the crater. The stadium in the foreground is the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, and the crowd in the stands has been arranged into the word NAPOLI.

What you are looking at

An aerial photograph taken low and looking east across the Fuorigrotta district. In the bottom third, the full oval of the stadium, its roof lit orange by the low sun, the green pitch in the middle and the pale blue block of supporters spelling the city's name. Beyond it the city climbs away in a dense field of apartment blocks, thousands of them, in cream, pink, ochre and grey. Then the bay, then the long double silhouette of Vesuvius with the sun breaking over its saddle, and the Sorrento peninsula fading off to the right. The whole upper half of the picture is a single orange gradient.

What it is like to build

This is a serious puzzle and you should know that before you open it. The sky is roughly a third of the image and it is a smooth orange-to-gold wash with almost no feature in it. There is no shortcut. Lay the sky pieces out face up in a rough gradient from pale to deep and place them by tone, working down from the top edge.

The stadium saves you. It is a strong geometric oval with hard edges, bright colour and clear structure, so build it early and completely. Then run the dark ridge line of Vesuvius across, which gives you the horizon. What is left is the city, and the trick there is that the buildings are lit from one side only: sort by whether a piece is the sunlit face or the shadowed face before you try to place any of it.

Why the Ravensburger cut matters on an image like this

This is precisely the picture that Ravensburger's manufacturing was made for. No two pieces in a 1000 piece share the same shape, so on a featureless sky a piece that is nearly right simply will not seat, and you get told immediately instead of three placements later. Made in Germany, thick board, linen-textured low-glare finish so a lamp over a large orange field does not white it out.

A little context

Italy is the single most heavily worked subject in the premium photographic category, and most of it is Venice, Tuscany or the Amalfi coast. Naples is rare, and an aerial of Naples with a football stadium in it is rarer still. If you already own the postcard views, this is the one that is not a postcard. On our own index of the market, 1000 pieces accounts for close to half of every title tracked. Derived from multiple public data sources across retail, search and community platforms, refreshed 31 August 2026.
