What it is like to build

At 500 pieces this is a single comfortable evening, and it is a good one to hand to someone who says they are no good at puzzles. The light does the sorting for you. Every piece is either warm gold, cold blue-white, or the dark mass of a tree, and those three piles go in three different parts of the picture.

Build the church tower first. It is the only large block of hard grey stone with straight edges. Then the lit windows, which are unmistakable. Then the red pillar box, the only saturated red in the frame. Leave the snow for last and place it by how blue it is: the further from a light source, the deeper the blue.

Why the Ravensburger cut matters here

Ravensburger have been in Ravensburg since 1883 and have made puzzles there since 1891. In their 500 piece puzzles the pieces are noticeably larger than in a 1000, which is part of why this is an easier evening, and no two share a shape, so a piece that is nearly right will not seat.
