What you are looking at

Inside: a fitted van in birch ply, with a small kitchen along the left wall, a sink and tap, a bowl of apples, a cafetiere, shelves of jars, folded striped blankets, a surfboard clipped to the ceiling, a straw hat and potted herbs. A bed across the back with a purple blanket and the collie lying on it. Cushions in kilim stripe, compass rose and red plaid. What it is like to build

The picture splits into a warm half and a cold half, and almost nothing crosses between them. Interior is plywood, amber light and textiles. Exterior is green grass, blue water and pale sky. That single sort takes most of the difficulty out.

The interior is the easy half despite looking busier. It is made of dozens of separate small objects, each with hard edges and its own colour, so nearly every piece is identifiable on its own. Start with the fridge stickers, the book spines and the patterned cushions.

The white door pillar down the middle is the trap. It is a tall column of near-plain white and grey with only reflections in it, and it is the one genuinely hard region in the picture. Leave it until both halves are built and it is a closed shape.
