The picture on the box is not the puzzle. You build what the lady sees, and she is standing in the middle of a Dutch cheese market watching it come apart.

Which Wasgij is this

In an Original you build the scene from one character's point of view, which appears nowhere on the packaging. Here it is what the lady sees, and she is the woman on the side of the box in glasses, mid-shout.

What is on the box

A cheese market in a Dutch town square. Hundreds of orange-waxed cheese rounds laid out in rows across the cobbles, with more stacked on wooden barrows. Carriers in white uniforms and straw hats hauling laden stretchers between the rows, one of them dropping his end. In the centre, a large man in a grey suit and blue bow tie holding a cheese and looking horrified, and a white terrier making off with another.

Behind, the square: stepped-gable townhouses in cream, pink and ochre with a KAAS sign and a striped market awning, a Gothic town hall on the right with an orange lion banner, a clock tower, Dutch tricolours, a horse and cart, a woman in traditional dress and cap, seagulls stealing from the stalls, and children on skateboards weaving through the whole thing.

What it is like to build

The cheeses are a repeating pattern covering the bottom third and that is the difficulty. Several hundred identical orange discs.

Sort them by how much cobble shows between them, because the rows are laid at different spacings and the perspective compresses them toward the back. That gives you bands. The gabled houses are the best region, each a different colour with hard roof lines, so build the top of the picture first and work down. Wasgij art is heavy black outline over flat fill, so any piece carrying a line is worth several that do not.

A little context

The Dutch cheese markets are real and still running, at Alkmaar and Gouda, carriers and stretchers and all. Wasgij is a Dutch invention, so a Dutch subject is the series on home ground. Derived from multiple public data sources across retail, search and community platforms, refreshed 31 August 2026.

Stock is real and it is in Sydney. Free shipping Australia wide over $150, and free same-day delivery inside 6 km of North Bondi with no minimum.
