Heye - Future Cities: Sky Isle 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle

What you are looking at

The island hangs in the middle of the frame: a wedge of dark rock, pointed underneath, with a dense white city built across its whole upper surface. Domes, towers, spires, terraces and bridges, packed together and rising toward a cluster of tall needles at the centre. Trees and gardens between the buildings.

From the base of the rock, a single waterfall falls in a long unbroken column into a lake far below. Two hot air balloons drift beside it, one gold and one blue, and small airships hang higher up. On both edges of the frame, foreground trees in dark green and a jacaranda in purple bloom, with two tiny figures standing on separate outcrops watching. What it is like to build

The island silhouette is the single most useful thing in the picture, so build it first. It is a hard dark wedge against pale sky, and once it is down the puzzle divides into city above, rock below, and landscape around.

The city is dense but forgiving, because every building has hard architectural edges even at small scale. The waterfall is a strong vertical and goes in quickly. The sky is the hard region, a large smooth pale gradient with only the moon and the balloons in it, and it should be last. Sort the sky by tone before placing any of it.
